Gāyātri-Nyasa:
For this meditation process we looked at placing sound syllables of the Gāyātri Mantra in specific areas of the right hand. This was done to help develop subtle awareness within the body, as well as helping learn the sounds, rhythms and meanings of the mantra. The practice of the Gāyātri Meditation was presented in three ways:
- We may meditate on Gāyātri as the universal Mother
- We may meditate on Gāyātri as the sun, symbol of cosmic light
- Or, we meditate on Gāyātri as the formless light of Truth, in the brow centre
Gāyātri Mantra (Rg Veda: 3.62.10)
Oṃ bhūr bhuvaḥ svaḥ
tát savitúr váreṇyaṃ
bhárgo devásya dhīmahi
dhíyo yó naḥ prachodáyāt
Translated meaning: We pay homage to the radiant light of the sun that, like the mother of all shining gods, inspires and illuminates our meditation
