R.I.P Guruji [24-10-2016]

Guruju P1020694

Just got news late last night that Guruji (Ravanand Saraswati) passed from this world into Maha-samadhi (24-10-2016). His body is now resting in Barsana.

I met my Guruji in January 2006 during a pilgrimage, visiting the shakti-peeths of India. We have traveled all over India together visiting holy sites (Hariwar, Allahabhad, Devprayag, Yamnotri, Gangotri, Jwala-ju, Mahakhal, Ujjain, Nashik, Barsana, Rameshwaram, Madurai, Kanyakumari). We was such a fun person and had a great sense of humour. He hated people crying so there will be few tears.

I will hold a bandhara (feast) with my students on Remembrance Day – Friday November 11.

Guruji caught a bad cold and it got progressively worse. He loved to smoke chillum and led a very simple sadhu life.

I have been very blessed having him as my Guru. He was an inspirational person.

New Zealand Yoga Study – free talk

Ali Hale Tilley will present findings from her Master’s Study on Yoga in New Zealand

Labour Day, Monday 24th October @ 5-5.45pm/ Sadhana Yoga: 9 Park Road, Miramar

This ethnographic study looks at the Aotearoa New Zealand (NZ) Yoga Industry, examining the ways that spirituality and consumerism influence Modern Yoga practices. This study argues that New Zealanders choose yoga practices for different spiritual, physical, and psychological reasons, reflecting the diverse sociocultural values and consumer expectations of local people. The wide-ranging spectrum of yoga practiced at a local level reflects the pragmatic needs, consumer expectations, and imagined ideals of resident populations.

Ali’s powerpoint presentation will last 20 minutes, followed by a question and answer session. Everyone is welcome to come and listen, or ask questions at the end of the talk.

Welcoming a new teacher for new Thursday 7.00 pm Vinyasa class

Introducing Sophia Pech – Thursday 7.00pm class – starting this week.

We have a great new Vinyasa Flow teaching running our new Thursday 7.00pm  class, which starts this week – 15th September

Sophia started practicing yoga in 2012 as a way to build strength and flexibility but it didn’t take long for the benefits of practice to take hold.

Completing her 200 hour yoga teacher training with Power Living in 2015, Sophia continues to learn through her own personal practice as well as attending teacher training workshops and retreats. Her class style is an active Vinyasa Flow

Sophia loves the sense of connection and community that yoga creates and looks forward to sharing this with you.

We look forward to you joining us to welcome this great new teacher to the Sadhana Yoga community!
